Jacqueline Bunce, DDS, MS
For 17 years, Dr. Jacqueline Bunce has been providing patients with exceptional orthodontic care. Raised in the Seattle area, Dr. Bunce attended the University of Washington in Seattle where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Metallurgical Engineering. She then worked as an engineer for Boeing Commercial Airplanes in Renton, Washington, for five years. Dr. Bunce had long maintained an interest in dentistry, and her background in materials engineering proved very helpful in her orthodontic career. Orthodontics is the most engineering related field in dentistry, and the materials dentists use (adhesive composites, shape memory wires) were originally developed for the aerospace industry.
In 1995 Dr. Bunce earned her Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Washington and was invited to begin a one year General Practice Residency at the University of Washington Medical Center, a hospital based residency program. This program of advanced training involved working with medically complex and emergency patients at the Medical Center and it's affiliated clinics: Harborview Medical Center, Seattle Children's Hospital, and the Veterans Administration Hospital. Upon completion of this program she became a full-time University of Washington School of Dentistry faculty member, later serving as the Director of Harborview Medical Center's Dental Clinic.
Dr. Bunce began her orthodontic specialty training at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, a three year program which is noted for performing dental research and creation of orthodontic and other dental textbooks which are used to train dentists throughout the world. She completed a Master's thesis research project involving digital radiography and earned her orthodontic specialty certification at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
Dr. Bunce is a board certified orthodontist and has achieved Diplomate status with the American Board of Orthodontics.
Actively participating in several key prestigious orthodontic professional organizations help to keep Dr. Bunce current on the latest techniques and technology. She recently served as the President of the Washington State Society of Orthodontists, as well as completing a four year term as the Washington State Director for the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists. Her professional memberships include: American Board of Orthodontics, American Association of Orthodontists, Washington State Society of Orthodontists, American Dental Association, Washington State Dental Association and the Seattle King County Dental Society.
Through her dedication to the profession, Dr. Bunce has received numerous honors and awards, including election into the national dental honorary fraternity, Omicron Kappa Upsilon. For her work with children, she received the American Society of Dentistry for Children Award, the Academy of General Dentistry Award, and the American Association of Women Dentists Award.
In her spare time, Dr. Bunce enjoys outdoor sports such as hiking and cross country skiing, and she loves spending time with family. She also volunteers with an organization that is very close to her heart, the ALS Association. In 2006, Dr. Bunce's husband passed away from ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease), and she is very involved with the ALS Association Evergreen Chapter. Dr. Bunce has sponsored delegates from her local chapter to go to Washington, D.C. to advocate with members of Congress and Senators for ALS associated issues. Dr. Bunce and her husband were pivotal in increasing funding to find a cure for ALS through their congresswoman at the time, Jennifer Dunn.
